To me the human perception is in a way similar to digital one, as both of them are not able to see all the moments and relation between spaces. With my works I try to research and display the contrast between human and machine perception. I try to invigorate this contrast in order to make an insight into space and movement from a new perspective.
In the last few years, my works consist mainly out of installations and interactive sculptures, most of which use Light as main inspiration and material. The inspiration for the works comes from little details in the technological or theoretical aspect of light. Whenever I am fascinated by such a phenomenon, (such as depth of field, for instance) I try to deconstruct it both in philosophical and technical meaning. I research the limits of its theoretical influence on Photography and try to find connections and contrasts to other media like painting. I like to use Light in the form where it comes out of the source, before it reflects from a surface. This form is for me the most powerful and closest to the source of all energy.
I am satisfied with my work only when trough my initial research and process of development the piece becomes something that starts to pose new questions and to give new answers.
That is why I like to find specific aspects of machines (like the shutter time of camera) and point them out, materialize and visualize it into something different. I try to combine the technological aspect of technology with its sociological meaning.
Therefore, equipment that I often use is projection mechanisms of cameras, which I modify to another function. I use plastic and synthetic glass to make the extensions and the floating mechanism of transparent films, which carry the images.
New pieces, which are created together with Luiza Margan are a combination of light, drawings and collages and deal with layers and displacement. They produce a slicing of an idea into groups of fragments. In the installations of these works, the fragments are displayed in two parts, the object where the layers are separated and the other part of the installation is the projection. The projection is the reconstruction of the parts to a complete image. The main energy putting the pieces together is again light, produced by an overhead projector.
The last installation we made together with Luiza we combined light, image of a construction site and an error. For the error we took ants as a material, that produced uncontrollable bumps in the image some sort of Formication (also title of the project). With this, we made a synthesis of artificial constructs and biological organisms in symbiotic dependency for survival.
