Artist statement / about artist Artist resume News from the artist

Igor Eskinja has earned his reputation by his outstanding connection of abstract and figurative, spatial and two-dimensional, metaphor and sign. Eskinja's compositions are actually reduced ambiences where detailed perfection of minimalist aesthetics gets applied to a phenomenal world, while iconic contents dissolve in carefully balanced illusionist compositions. Most often he uses industrial materials applied directly onto a wall or floor, just to be destroyed after the show ends.

“A different point of view”

In this new project Igor Eskinja presents two wall paintings and a series of photos. The exhibition called “A different point of view”, wants to highlight the unlimited individual possibilities of room perception .
The presented elements ( particularly any computer desktop folder) are reduced, dematerialised; some of them refer to art historical period, while others are unnamed.
We find our selves in front of a language by now being a part of our daily life, but not being physically to open the files and to see the contents, we are “obliged” to use our imagination.
The visitor therefore has to oppose the pleasure of recognising familiar facts, to frustration generated by the impossibility of using it. In this way the intervention generates relation between the idea and its realisation, the visible and imperceptible.
The modus operand of Eskinja through which, the slightest intervention emphasizes the possibility of change and transformation of perception itself leads the viewer right to the border between “objective reality” and pure illusion. As the artist points out.
“I’m interested in creating a situation in which the viewer finds his balance at the boundary of space, establishing a mental relation between himself and the space where he is in.”
