Artist statement / about artist Artist resume News from the artist

I am interested in approaching and using new ways of work that do not always fit within the existing structures and more rigid boundaries of artistic disciplines.
I constantly strive to offer audiences different approaches to the nature and experience of art, and engage them as complicit partners in the making and reading of meaning. I use different strategies to design a very distinct role for them so that they have an experience that is both visceral and intellectual.
This creates works that essentially depend on the reaction and involvement of the audience, and invest in questions of chance, immediacy and reality.

Verica Kovacevska

Verica Kovacevska is an artist, educator and researcher, whose work consists mostly of live, site/context-specific, durational performances and projects, which are documented through photography, video, and text. Often playful, humorous, and deeply personal, her work reflects on contemporary socio-cultural and political issues, which have been characterized by implicating both the artist and audience directly into the artwork. Her work has been shown in a variety of contexts (appropriate to the individual artwork) ranging from art galleries to public sites to entire urban areas. Most of her work is done in series or during longer periods of time (e.g. one year, six months, 24 hrs), emphasizing the importance of time, repetition, and process over product.
