In some oriental religions, the highest degree of enlightenment is achieved when one manages to emerge in unity with the universe; when one blends with the totality of existence; when the subject equates with the object to such a degree that subsequent (future) division between them becomes impossible. I’ve wondered many times what happens with the enlightened consciousness in such rare occasions. What happens with the spirit when it manages to transcend the material existence and equates itself with the all being? The most satisfying answer which comes to mind is that a sublime initiation of a spiritual-cosmic contemplation and joy is being accomplished. (Similar to the joy which overwhelms every human when he outdoes himself in a certain discipline. For example, when an athlete sets a new world record and celebrates it as a little child.) It becomes all the more apparent to me that transcendental joy of being one with the universe (or the effort for such an interpenetration) cannot manifest itself more appropriately than through art. But not through any art. Only art which justifies the universe as an aesthetic phenomenon (which tries and/or manages to blend with it) can produce such a joy. Only art can entice love (deprived of interest) with the universe. The artworks of Kristina Hadzieva (along with the works of other artists who try to chat with the universe) cannot be deconstructed or analyzed. If we try to do that, we lose the point. And the point, according to my deep intuition, is that the form and the mélange (the beauty) of her artworks direct us towards cosmic joy. If not towards joy, than at least towards a yearning of unification with the totality of existence, with Tao… And according to the gurus of Taoism, even the longest journey starts with the first step. So, let’s make the first step!
