Video Big Bang is a home video-performance where the artist is capturing the moment of her emotional explosion on tape. In this performance camera plays the role of a mirror and girl addresses her furious flow of mind and deep anger directly to the viewer. This ultimate representation of female anger and hysteria we can read in many different ways: as a ritual of personal initiation or a healing ritual, as a counter-image of male aggressiveness, as a clearly disturbing element in the world of wanted and non-wanted images....
If there is an occasion to use words, artist Ivana Smiljanic´ prefers to continue in the same manner instead to explain. She usually appropriates a paragraph from Vojislav Despotov's story Psychoduck as her artistic statement. We should also respect that, so:
"What do you want? See how ugly you are, Psychoduck. Like a thief. Like night. One would not take a walnut from you, you are short-sighted, a real myopic intellectual, your nose is wide and red as if taken from a jar at some institute, you drink and smoke a lot, you are full of fixed ideas, you’re short and stooped, your legs are stubby, you’re unemployed so I have to support you and this is expensive these days, you’re an unknown writer because you haven’t written anything, you’re aggressive and in love with a collarless black shirt, you’ve dabbled in communal strikes and said all sorts of things against the regime, you haven’t visited your parents for six years and you threw that picture postcard they sent you from some spa behind the wardrobe because it was kitsch, allegedly it would serve to drive away spiders and cockroaches, you’re ill and barren too. [...]"
